Caring for Kids Marks 25 Years of Serving Cape May County Families

Organization’s legacy includes establishing one of the county’s first food pantries

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, N.J. — For 25 years, Caring for Kids Cape May County has quietly served as a source of support for local children, individuals and families experiencing difficult circumstances.

Based on Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House, the organization helped establish one of the first food pantries in Cape May County. That pantry remains part of Caring for Kids’ continuing commitment to making food, basic necessities and community resources more accessible to residents in need.

Over the years, Caring for Kids has worked alongside volunteers, donors, businesses and community organizations to respond to the changing needs of Cape May County families. While the services provided may vary depending on the circumstances, the organization’s purpose has remained consistent: to help local residents find support, stability and hope.

“Caring for Kids has been part of this community for 25 years, and that history belongs to everyone who has donated, volunteered, referred a family or helped someone walk through our doors,” said Rachell Diaz, president of the Caring for Kids Board of Directors. “This anniversary is not only about the organization. It is about the many people throughout Cape May County who have made this work possible.”

Caring for Kids will recognize the milestone during its 2nd Annual Safe & Sound Fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at South 9 Bar & Grille.

The evening will also recognize Chrissy Casiello and Josh Mercado of No Limits Academy for their work with children and youth in the community.

“Chrissy and Josh reflect the same community-centered spirit that has sustained Caring for Kids for the past 25 years,” Diaz said. “Their work shows what can happen when people invest their time, energy and care in young people.”

The event will include a buffet dinner, silent auction and live music by Bittersweet. Tickets are $35 per person. Vendor tables and sponsorship opportunities are also available.
